Black Country, New Road are a boundary-defying British post-rock collective that emerged from the fertile South London music scene around 2019. Known for their sprawling, emotionally intense compositions, the band weaves together an eclectic tapestry of influences — from klezmer and jazz to math-rock and chamber music — creating a sound that is entirely their own.
Originally fronted by Isaac Wood, whose confessional and often surreal lyricism became a defining feature of their early work, the band released their debut album *For the first time* in 2021 to widespread critical acclaim. Their follow-up, *Ants From Up There*, arrived in 2022 and was hailed as a modern masterpiece, a sweeping, orchestral meditation on love, longing, and collapse — made all the more poignant by Wood's departure from the band just days before its release.
Rather than dissolving, BC,NR reinvented themselves. The remaining six members stepped forward as a collective voice, embracing a more collaborative and experimental approach on *Live at Bush Hall*, showcasing remarkable resilience and artistic evolution.
Passionate, unpredictable, and deeply human, Black Country, New Road continue to be one of the most compelling and adventurous acts in contemporary music.
