DakhaBrakha

DakhaBrakha is a mesmerizing Ukrainian ethno-chaos band formed in Kyiv in 2004, born from the creative space of the Dakh Contemporary Arts Centre. Comprising four multi-talented musicians — Marko Halanevych, Iryna Kovalenko, Olena Tsibulska, and Natalka Halatiuk — the ensemble weaves together ancient Ukrainian folk traditions with an eclectic sonic palette spanning cello, bass drum, didgeridoo, cajón, and haunting vocal harmonies. Their name, derived from Sanskrit meaning "give" and "take," perfectly encapsulates their musical philosophy: a powerful exchange of cultural energy between past and present, East and West. Dressed in striking traditional Ukrainian costumes topped with dramatic tall black sheepskin hats, DakhaBrakha delivers a visual and sonic experience unlike any other. Drawing from Ukrainian, African, Australian, Arabic, and Russian musical roots, they create a sound that defies categorization — raw, spiritual, and deeply moving. Their performances have captivated audiences at renowned international festivals across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, earning them a devoted global following. More than just musicians, DakhaBrakha has become a powerful cultural symbol of Ukrainian identity and resilience, carrying their nation's artistic soul to the world stage with passion, pride, and extraordinary artistic vision.
