Obituary

Emerging from the swamps of Tampa, Florida in 1984, Obituary stands as one of the founding pillars of death metal. Originally formed under the name Executioner, the band carved their identity with a crushing, groove-laden sound that set them apart from their peers — slower and more menacing than most, built on down-tuned riffs and the utterly distinctive, guttural vocals of frontman John Tardy. Their 1989 debut album *Slowly We Rot* sent shockwaves through the extreme metal underground, followed swiftly by *Cause of Death* (1990), widely regarded as one of the greatest death metal records ever recorded. These albums helped define an entire genre, influencing countless bands across generations. Through lineup changes, a brief breakup in the late '90s, and triumphant returns, Obituary's fire never dimmed. Their relentless dedication to raw, uncompromising heaviness has kept them at the forefront of the scene for decades. Reuniting in 2003, they continued delivering punishing performances and releasing powerful records, including their celebrated self-titled album in 2017. With a legacy spanning over three decades, Obituary remains a living monument to death metal — brutal, authentic, and utterly unstoppable.
